Farewell, Summer... Day 1

Last weekend we went camping at Mission Bay for the summer's grand finale... and to celebrate Diego's 1st birthday! By the time Will got home from work, we got Grandma all settled and actually got in the truck (and stopped for In 'N Out), it was late! All we had time for, once we reached our campsite, was a late-night game of Yahtzee. For once, it was MY night! Yes, that's me that Yahtzeed on fives!!! Then it was off to bed to get ready for our big fun.....

Farewell, Summer... Day 2

Day 2 of our camping trip was action-packed and awesome! We had so much fun!! We started our day with bacon and eggs and bagels and then took a stroll along Mission Bay. It was really fun for me because my family used to come here when I was growing up. We came to this same RV park and took this same walk. The homes around the bay are a little run down now, not beautiful like I remember them. But it was a fun walk down memory lane.

I love this picture of Titus and Diego on the bay.

We rented pedal boats on the bay for an hour, just enough time to enjoy the water before heading back to camp to meet our friends. I couldn't stop taking pictures of Diego in that boat! He was so happy; can't you tell how proud he is? I think he's actually smiling. And he loved dragging his tail in the water to cool off. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

Zane, Sulli and I had so much fun in our little pedal boat too! We didn't have a big furry dog to weigh us down, so we zoomed around the bay with great ease. Ok, you can't really zoom in a pedal boat, but we went much faster than they did!

Our dear friends, Sean and Mary Kay and their sweet kids, drove down to spend some time with us at the beach. We finally decided on Dog Beach in Del Mar so we wouldn't have to leave Diego behind. He loved the water and watching the other pooches, and all of our kids had a great time together, as always! Thanks for being the wonderful friends you are, Alixs, and for taking time for us out of your family day. We love you all!

This has been a long day, and I think Titus is ready to go back to camp. Levi, on the other hand, looks like he's just getting started!

Mary Kay and I got to visit a little at the beach, but I wish we'd had more time!

Zane loved boogie boarding and swimming with Sydney and Bailey.

Sulli and Lukie loved each other's company while playing in the sand.

Playing on the beach left us all super sandy. The guys braved the public showers (not my pick), and us girls took baths in our own tiny tub. Here' my little doll, ready for hers.

After cleaning up a little, we drove back over to P.B. to eat at The Fishery, one of Will's and my favorite restaurants when we lived there. At lunch, their fish burritos are to die for, and their dinner menu is amazing. We ate outside so Diego could watch us (lucky pup!), tied right down on the sidewalk near our tables (Zane and Titus had their own). I'm still shocked at how much attention we get when we have him with us. Everyone wants to pet him, love on him and know all about him. I guess he is pretty cute.

After dinner we stopped by Cold Stone for ice cream to take back to our trailer. Poor Diego couldn't eat any, but we sure couldn't let a birthday celebration pass us by without a treat! What a great finale to our action-packed, perfect day of fun in the sun!

Farewell, Summer... Day 3

The last day of our little camping trip, we had to have breakfast at one of our old favorites: Kono's. It's worth the 1-2 hour wait in line to be able to eat outside with the ocean breeze in your hair. This place is always packed because the food's great too.

After a good (and gigantic) breakfast, we all hit the boardwalk to take a nice walk and enjoy the sights (especially the kite surfing... so cool!)

Can you tell how much fun we were having? This was yet another stunningly beautiful day in San Diego!

A very nice lady offered to take our family picture.

As if Pacific Beach knew that Diego was having a birthday, we came upon this doggie treat station outside a shop. He was happy, and like the good little boy he is (not), he only took one or two bones. I think he had a great first birthday weekend!!!

The sun was becoming too much for Sulli's fair skin, so we got her this hat to protect her. She LOVED it.

Beach Day!

We went to our favorite beach, Solana, August 7th. This has been such a mild summer, and it was actually a chilly day! There was still a thick marine layer when we got there, around noon! So the boys just played beach baseball until it burned off. What an awesome day we had!

While the boys played, I enjoyed watching Sullivan's awe and wonder at the sand, the sky, the birds, the "pool," the sounds, the people... you name it. If you're ever wondering why there are so many pictures of Sulli on this blog, wonder no more. You'd do the same if this scrumptious little person was yours. And I think I'm still in disbelief that we have a little GIRL. I really wish I'd been blogging back when each of the boys were tiny. But I make myself feel better when I look at any of my 25 PRE-Sullivan photo albums. Yes, I said TWENTY-FIVE. Clearly, I'm in love with all of my children.

Sulli and Mommy chilled... a lot... since a certain munchkin did not want anything to do with the ocean. Oh well. There's NOTHING wrong with some extra mother/daughter time.

My beach boys!!!!

Oooohhh... he's cute!

After sitting for hours on the beach with a little girl who didn't want to go near the giant "pool," I talked everyone into getting dressed and going for a walk before we went home. It was nice and cool and wonderful!

There's no one better to hold you, in the whole world, when you're tired, than your Daddy.
